Heavy Duty Marquees for Sale: Steel Frames, Walls Included

Our heaviest built marquees are the 6x6m ($949) and 12x6m ($1,899) on 38mm powder-coated steel poles, and the 12x7m ($2,299) on heavy-duty galvanised steel with steel joint connectors and a 160g/m² roof. Every size comes with its walls included, and seven of our eight sizes run on steel frames. To be straight with you: these are event marquees for occasional use, not permanent buildings. Our product pages do not state a wind rating or an engineering certification, so we do not quote one. Anchor every leg and take the marquee down when gusts above about 40 km/h are forecast.

What makes a marquee heavy duty?

"Heavy duty" has no standard meaning in Australia, so check the numbers behind it on any listing, ours included:

  • Pole size and wall thickness: a thicker pole with a thicker wall bends less. Our 6x6m and 12x6m legs are 38mm, and the 12x6m states a 1.0mm wall.
  • Frame metal and finish: powder-coated or galvanised steel resists rust and is heavier than aluminium. Weight on the ground helps a marquee stay put.
  • Joints: steel joint connectors, as on the 6x6m and 12x7m, hold the frame square under load.
  • Fabric weight: measured in grams per square metre. The 12x6m and 12x7m state a 160g/m² roof and 140g/m² walls.
  • Anchoring: no frame is heavy enough on its own. The pegs, ropes and weights do the real work in wind.

Every roof and wall we sell is white PE (polyethylene), UV treated and water resistant, and every wall panel is removable. See which sizes come fully enclosed with side walls.

What heavy duty does not mean

A heavy duty event marquee is still a temporary structure. We do not quote a wind rating, a snow load or a structural certification, because our product pages do not state one. Do not leave a marquee up unattended in bad weather or for weeks at a time. Take it down when gusts above about 40 km/h are forecast, and dry it fully before you pack it away. If you need a structure that stays up year round, that is a building and may need council approval: see do you need a permit for a marquee.

How to anchor a heavy duty marquee

On grass, peg and rope every leg. On concrete, pavers or decking, weight is your only anchor. As a general guide, not a rating, allow about 20kg per leg for the 9x3m and 6x6m and about 25kg per leg for the 10x5m, with more on exposed sites. Many Australian markets that publish a rule ask for 20kg on every leg, and 40kg per leg once side walls go on.

Our marquee base weights are $129 for a 4 pack, filled with water or sand on site. The pods are made for 25mm poles. The 6x6m and 12x6m have 38mm legs, so the pods do not fit them: strap sandbags or weight plates to each leg instead. For the 8x4m, 10x5m and 12x7m, ask us before ordering weights. More detail: marquee wind limits in km/h, how to weigh down a marquee in wind and how to anchor a marquee on concrete or pavers.

Common questions

Are your marquees heavy duty?

Seven of our eight sizes run on steel frames. The heaviest built are the 6x6m and 12x6m on 38mm steel poles and the 12x7m on galvanised steel with a 160g/m² roof. They are event marquees for occasional use, not permanent structures.

How much wind can a heavy duty marquee handle?

We do not quote a wind rating, because our product pages do not state one. Anchor every leg and take the marquee down when gusts above about 40 km/h are forecast, whatever the frame.

Which is your heaviest built marquee?

The 12x7m. It runs on heavy-duty galvanised steel poles with steel joint connectors, has a 160g/m² roof and 140g/m² walls, and weighs about 194kg packed. It is $2,299, on pre-order shipping end of November 2026.

Can I leave a heavy duty marquee up permanently?

No. Put it up for the event, take it down after, and take it down early if strong wind or storms are forecast. Leaving any event marquee up for weeks shortens its life and can be unsafe.

How much does a heavy duty marquee cost?

The 6x6m on 38mm steel is $949, the 12x6m on 38mm steel is $1,899 and the 12x7m on galvanised steel is $2,299. Smaller steel frame sizes start at $249 for the fully enclosed 6x3m. Walls are included in every price.
