The sizes Sydney buyers start with: the 9x3m marquee ($349, about 45 standing) for a backyard party, the 10x5m wedding marquee ($1,599, about 33 seated for dinner) for a wedding, and festoon lights (from $149 for 30m) to light it up after dark.

Rows of chairs fit more people than tables: the 9x3m seats about 30 in rows, the 10x5m about 55 and the 12x7m about 95. The 6x6m, 8x4m, 12x6m and 12x7m are pre-orders, shipping end of November 2026.
Delivery is free to Sydney metro on every size. The 3x3m, 6x3m, 9x3m, 10x5m and festoon lights are free to every NSW address. For the four bulky sizes (6x6m, 8x4m, 12x6m and 12x7m), some regional NSW postcodes pay $185 to $340 and remote postcodes $780 to $800, and checkout shows any charge before you pay.
Sydney rain: plan for it, not around it
Sydney is wetter than Melbourne, Adelaide, Perth, Canberra or Hobart. The Bureau of Meteorology's long-term record for Sydney (Observatory Hill) averages 1,213 mm of rain a year across about 100 days with 1 mm or more. The heaviest months are June (133 mm) and March (132 mm), and even the driest month, September, still averages 68 mm.
So for a Sydney party, side walls are not optional extras, and every size comes with them (the 3x3m has three, the rest close in fully). The roofs are PE. No marquee we sell is rated for severe storms, so if a storm warning is issued, take it down.
Afternoons also get breezy. The same record shows the average 3pm wind speed climbing to about 19 km/h from October to December, against 8 to 10 km/h at 9am in summer. Fit base weights ($129 for a 4 pack) before guests arrive, not once the breeze does.
Do you need approval for a backyard marquee in NSW?
Often not. The NSW Planning Portal lists tents or marquees used for private functions among the temporary structures that can be exempt development, so no planning approval, provided you meet the standards. Those include written consent from the landowner, not blocking parking or vehicle and pedestrian access, a structure able to resist loads under the relevant Australian and New Zealand Standards, and a surface firm and level enough to hold it. The Portal also says you need public liability insurance for an amount agreed with the landowner. Rules for parks and council land are separate, so ask your council before setting up anywhere other than private property.
