Beach and park days: the 3x3m rule
Plenty of Gold Coast parties end up at a park by the water, so know the council rules before you pack the car. For a park wedding, the City of Gold Coast allows pop-up marquees up to 3m x 3m and no pegs, and a ceremony on a surf beach needs its own beach wedding permit. For a private party in a park, council says you need a booking once more than 50 people are coming or the marquee is bigger than 3m x 3m.

Sea breeze, salt and sand
Close to the beach, plan for an afternoon sea breeze. A marquee with the walls on catches wind like a sail, so peg it on grass, weight it on pavers or sand, and drop the windward wall if the breeze picks up.
