What is the average price for marquee hire?
Using one headline price per business per size, the middle (median) advertised price is $245 for a small marquee from 3x3m to 6x3m (range $110 to $600, six prices), $725 for a 6x6m to 9x6m (range $450 to $1,200, eight prices) and $1,040 for a large marquee from 10x5m to 12x6m (range $600 to $1,900, eight prices). Those 22 prices include more sizes from the same seven businesses than the 12 rows shown above. We left out Walkers Hire (we could not confirm its live website), pop-up gazebos, furniture packages and any price we could not read on the page. We have no Perth marquee price on a page we could verify, so no Perth figure is shown.
What is usually not in the hire price?
Delivery is extra at most businesses, and several include setup only within a set radius, such as 60km or 100km. Walls, flooring and weights are often separate lines. For example, one Brisbane business charges $12.50 per wall side, and one wedding structure lists a $800 timber floor. Some prices are per weekend, some are three days and some do not say, so never read these figures as a daily rate.
When does buying a marquee cost less than hiring?
Buying costs more than one hire and less than two, in most cases. At the middle hire prices above, our 6x3m at $249 is passed by the second hire ($490), our 6x6m at $949 by the second hire ($1,450) and our 10x5m at $1,599 by the second hire ($2,080). Against the cheapest advertised hire in each size, buying wins from the second or third event. Buying also means you put it up, pack it down and store it yourself, which is the part hire businesses charge for.
